Heterojunction cells are one of the most promising candidates for the next generation of highefficiencycells in crystalline silicon photovoltaics. This is due to various favorable reasons, such as the high efficiencypotential (> 21%), the ease of processing in a limited number of process steps and the excellent outdoor performances interms of energy harvesting. The combination of these factors gives the enormous potential of this technology, especiallyin lowering the overall cost of PV systems and solar cells specifically. At Roth&Rau, the technology is developed on 6’’cells since several years focusing on mass production vacuum tools (PECVD, PVD) and process integration at its R&Dline in Switzerland and pilot line in Germany. Thanks to the integration of Roth& Rau in the Meyer Burger group,Heterojunction project has been pushed head to be a global product that cover every steps from the wafer sawing to thefinalized module. This synergy has been obtained by the involvement of each partners of the Meyer Burger group in thisproject.
