Heterojunction cells are one of the most promising candidates for the next generation of highefficiency cells in crystalline silicon photovoltaics. This is due to various favorable reasons, such as the high efficiency potential (> 21%), the ease of processing in a limited number of process steps and the excellent outdoor performances in terms of energy harvesting. The combination of these factors gives the enormous potential of this technology, especially in lowering the overall cost of PV systems and solar cells specifically. At Roth&Rau, the technology is developed on 6’’ cells since several years focusing on mass production vacuum tools (PECVD, PVD) and process integration at its R&D line in Switzerland and pilot line in Germany. Thanks to the integration of Roth& Rau in the Meyer Burger group, Heterojunction project has been pushed head to be a global product that cover every steps from the wafer sawing to the finalized module. This synergy has been obtained by the involvement of each partners of the Meyer Burger group in this project. Belong all Meyer Burger group actions to set Heterojunction as the next generation for photovoltaic, this paper presents some innovations done on the cell metallization and module integration.
