Blended learning environments are generally defined as learning environments which combine teacher-directed face-to-face learning with technology-mediated instruction and/or learning (Bonk, Graham, Cross & Moore, 2005, p.4). These environments are not a new phenomenon and their characteristics have changed over time. During the last couple of years some highly innovative blended learning initiatives have been launched in Finland for higher education. Porvoo Campus represents a highly innovative approach to blended learning design - it is a new and creative concept for learning, business and culture and a concept that integrates modern design of physical environments and cutting-edge learning technology.
