The availability of economically priced fuels for transport and mobility is fundamental part of today’ssociety. High prices and the finite availability of fossil fuels are fundamental and critical problems of the existing fuelsupply structure. In order to ensure the long-term provision of energy for transport and mobility, it is vital to developand implement a more diverse and sustainable supply structure. The well-established and mature fossil fuels sectorconsists of a consolidated actor networks that ensures long-term stability. The implementation of new technologies –such as sustainable biofuels – strongly depends on the underlying socio-technical system. The consolidated mobilitysector of today can only be modified gradually through a continuous and incremental process, whereofstandardisation and certification of biofuels is vital part of the overall transition to sustainable mobility. The privateself-regulation in the biofuels sector includes a broad variety of involved actors with individual characteristics.
