The Norwegian Public Road Administration (NPRA) plan to establish a new solution formore efficient heavy vehicle controls. The vehicles are screened by sensor systems while theyare in motion, and when irregularities are discovered, the vehicles can be selected for furthermanual controls. This paper describes how the new solution is specified by means of theARKTRANS methodology, and how it will integrate with legacy systems. The realisation ofthe solution is an iterative process. A decision support system pilot will be realised based uponthis specification. A pilot site is already established, and trials with sensor solutions forautomated selection of control candidates are carried out. In general the results are promising,but further tuning, testing and evaluation are required before the solutions can be put intooperation.
