Dangerous Goods Transport - Telematics, Standards and Regulation - A Case Study

This paper provides a brief overview of a key development in the area of the transportation ofDangerous Good (DGT) to support aligned and interoperable telematics applications. Reuseof existing state-of-the-art techniques have resulted in the creation of a reference data modelfor Dangerous Goods Transport. This reference model is being promoted to underpin a rangeof related but diverse telematics applications that involve to different degrees DangerousGoods Transport. Promotion of this reference model extends to the freight sector for logisticand emergency response applications, where DGT forms an important but non-core elementof applications within these domains. Development and uptake of this form of reference datamodel provides a template and approach that can be extended to other telematics domains tosupport alignment of services, applications and related standards.
