TRANSPORT PLANNING AND SIMULATION FOR FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 IN ROSTOV-ON-DON (RUSSIA)

It is evident that in forthcoming years in Russia will increase interest to use large events fordevelopment of urban transport infrastructure in the host cities. Large events give host citiesthe possibility to create modern urban network, traffic management system, public transportand provide sustainable development. In this paper is presented results of the first steps oftransport planning and traffic simulation to prepare transport infrastructure of Rostov-on-Don(Russia) for FIFA World Cup 2018. There was high priority to develop strategic concept forurban transport system, define traffic demand, especially for peak periods, develop ITS andimplement preliminary traffic simulation. Research, experiments, simulation and design wereperformed on the city network.
