We have demonstrated that glycol chitin with thermo-responsive property could be used as a new thermogelling polymer. The sol-gel transition behavior of glycol chitin was controlled from 23 °C to 72 °C with fast gelation kinetic, which is highly desirable for injectable hydrogel materials. Aqueous solution of glycol chitin could be injected through a syringe in vitro and thus formed gel was stable in an excess PBS at 37 °C. In vivo experiments further demonstrated that glycol chitin had clear property of sol-gel transition at body temperature. These results indicated that glycol chitin with novel properties could be uesd as a new thermogelling polymer for various biomedical applications, such as treatment of localized diseases.
