The results of these studies clearly demonstrate the efficacy of this system, and the positive effects of all principles used in concert. The implementation of an online monitoring system not only provides accurate information concerning the morphological character of cells and associated volume fraction, but also provides valuable insight into the dielectric parameters that can be used as an additional tool in evaluating cellular behavior. Therefore, we present a powerful three-dimensional tissue bioreactor culture system that is capable of noninvasive monitoring and characterization of human pancreatic islets.
