In conclusion, we have developed a strategy for the synthesis of functionalized particles of NPs(FITC)-PEG-Folate, and demonstrated that NPs(FITC)-PEG-Folate can be internalized into folate receptor positive KB cells with relatively high efficiency. An investigation of the internalization mechanism showed that the admission of NPs(FITC)-PEG-Folate into KB cells is predominated by clathrin-mediated endocytosis. These results demonstrated that the the silica nanoparticles possessed the predominance of structural stability, fluorescence labeling and targeting.
