In this study, NO-releasing nanopartilces, GS-NO NPs, were successfully synthesized based on GS NPs, with a monodispersed size and a rough, sphere-like morphology. Preliminary study showed that GS-NO NPs can release NO continuously for more than 17 hrs, following a 1st-order exponential kinetic cureve. Cytotoxicity test revealed no obvious cytotoxicity of GS-NO NPs. We conclude that GS-NO NPs can function as a potential NO donor in cardiovascular therapeutics and other biomedical applications.
