REPLACEMENT OF PLANT MONITORING SYSTEM (PMS) FOR ULCHIN UNIT 12 PLANTS

Ulchin Unit 1&2 Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) have been in operation for over 20 years since 1988. The original plant computer system supplied by Framatome had maintenance difficulties due to aging and obsolescence of the component. KEPCO Engineering & Construction Company, Inc. (KEPCO E&C) successfully completed the replacement project of the Plant Monitoring System (PMS) for Ulchin Unit 1&2 NPPs in 2009. This paper summarizes the system overview for the replacement system, the PMS which consists of Plant Data Acquisition System (PDAS) and Plant Computer System (PCS). It includes system characteristics, functional description, network design, and software design. The system was tested through a various types of testing to verify that the system meets functional, performance, and interface requirements. This paper describes the valuable experience and lessons learned from the replacement project.
