ENTREPRENEURIAL PROJECTS: TOWARDS A PROJECT-BASED VIEW OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

As in other young and still forming disciplines, different perspectives have been employed to entrepreneurship. This paper contributes a review of entrepreneurship in order to better understand the possibility and feasibility of integrating "manage by project" philosophy into entrepreneurial management. We conclude that combining both streams of research opens interesting new perspectives, for which we use the term "entrepreneurial project". Entrepreneurial projects are projects that take different shapes in different settings. For example, we discuss new venture creation as external entrepreneurial project and its comparison with entrepreneurial projects inside the firm. The project perspective allows establishing hypothesis and observable factors, which allow more empirical and quantitative research. Entrepreneurial projects are distinct from other projects in that they are characterized by continued growth of its team and operation and its continued structural change which often takes revolutionary (non-gradual evolution) dimensions.
