Conceptual design optimization framework with rotor structural design was developed and validated for a compound rotorcraft with a lift offset. The power estimation algorithm in HCDO (Helicopter Conceptual Design Optimization) program was upgraded to consider the compound rotorcraft with a lift offset. For validation purposes, conceptual design of an existing stiff-in-plane rotor in XH-59A compound rotorcraft was conducted upon the present procedure. The hover and forward flight rotor performance maps of the XH-59A aircraft were obtained by using CAMRAD II. By using the resulting rotor performance maps, conceptual design of the aircraft was conducted. In addition to the conceptual design, optimization for the structural construction of a rotor system in XH-59A aircraft was conducted by applying the present two-level procedure. Verification of the influence by the optimization efforts on the conceptual design was conducted.
