This paper reports effects of cyclic loading on the pre-peak stress-strain behavior and peak strength of cement-mixed well-graded gravel (CMG) compacted at the optimum water content. The stress-strain behaviour after the start of large-scale yielding and the peak shear strength are not noticeably affected by previous cyclic loading with a relatively large stress amplitude. The pre-yielding stress-strain behavior during reloading is significantly affected by the following factors controlled by pre-cyclic loading history; a) strain-hardening; b) strain-non-linearity; c) hysteresis effect; d) viscous effect; and e) damage to bonding by immediately preceding large unloading. The tangent stiffness at a given stress level during reloading exhibits a very complicated trend becoming larger with an increase in the effects of factor a) and smaller by the effects of factors b), c), d) and e).
