Practical Location Planning Method for Urban Transfer Centers

The goal of this paper is to present a methodology to optimize the location for urbantransfer centers. To fulfill this end, the authors prevent a two-step planning method, and itconsists of macroscopic location planning and microscopic location planning. The authorspresent two concepts: location importance indicator, node importance indicator.Macroscopic location planning mainly focuses on the analysis of location importanceindicator of traffic analysis zone. Location importance indicators are calculated by takinginto account the spatial distance and passengers' OD volume between traffic analysis areas.Microscopic location planning focuses on the analysis of node importance indicator. Thesenodes belong to the set of location options in each TAZ. The node importance indicator iscalculated according to the strength of connectivity. The set of location options in eachTAZ of transfer center comprises nodes that meet the demand of land use for construction.On the basis of the result of two-step planning analysis, the planning scheme of transfercenters location is put forward. The method of location planning for transfer centers inmetropolis is practical, and it has a better maneuverability. A case study is given todemonstrate the practicability of the proposed method.
