A Geared 3RT Linkage Used For the Azimuth Orientation of a PV Platform

Tracking systems are used for optimization of the efficiency of a photovoltaic module by increasing theamount of solar radiation received, following the sun movement during a day. Usually, for reaching wide angular strokescomplex and expensive mechanisms are used. In this paper is presented a new type of mechanism, build of a planetarygears system fitted onto a linkage used for the azimuth movement of a PV tracking system. Although the complexity isrelatively high, the resulted linkage transmission angles have favorable values, and so jamming is avoided. The paperpresents the kinematical modeling and synthesis algorithm of the proposed tracking geared linkage. Further themechanism is used to assure the azimuth movement of a PV module, and through numerical simulations the trackingefficiency is calculated for a given geographical location.
