On Power and Corruption in China

摘要

Some corrupt officials, or public servants, taking advantage of the public power they hold, replace law with power, trade power for money, bend the law for selfish ends and abuse power for personal gains by every possible means. Their practices go against the principle of exercising power in the interest of the people. Such corruption is like a malignant tumor. Once it invades the body of the government agencies, it will bring great disasters to the society and the country. This paper presents an analysis of the relationship between power and corruption, then illustrates with typical examples how power degrades into corruption and, finally, offers some policy options for corruption management.
