Our experiments on carbon-epoxy filament-wound composite tube showed that filament-wound composite tubes had nonlinear behavior even under axial loading.This nonlinear behavior,through investigation,is mainly caused by nonlinear shear behavior.In this paper,the nonlinear constitutive relation developed by Hahn and Tsai is adopted in our analysis where a piecewise linear approximation is used for filament wound tubes.A computer program is developed to calculate the nonlinear behavior of filament wound tubes with different manufacture parameters,different material properties and different fiber orientations.A good agreement between experimental results and analytical predictions is obtained.
