BELGIAN FEASIBILITY STRATEGY AND ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY FOR GEOLOGICAL DISPOSAL

This paper describes the feasibility strategy and the feasibility assessment methodology that ONDRAF/NIRAS, the Belgian Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials, proposes to follow as a component of the first safety and feasibility case - SFC1. The feasibility strategy and feasibility assessment methodology will demonstrate, at the conceptual design level, that the proposed geological disposal system for category B&C waste can be constructed, operated and progressively closed. The feasibility strategy focuses on engineering practicability, health & safety and environmental considerations, costs and quality assurance issues.
