A computational model has been developed to explore the feasibility of heavy fuel in a gasoline Direct Injection Spark Ignition engine. A geometrical model identical to that of the Pontiac Solstice 2008 is developed using ANSYS Gambit 2.4. To generate high-quality meshes and to accurately represent the piston motion, dynamic layering and local re-meshing techniques are utilized. The computational model is selected upon validation with gasoline fuel. A parametric study is performed on injection timing and particle size in order to determine the engine operating characteristics using diesel fuel instead of gasoline.
