EUROPEAN PAYLOAD TRAINING FOR ISS ASTRONAUTS

Astronaut training is a crucial component of any spaceflight mission and contributes significantly to its envisagedsuccess. How is training, as critical as this, developed and delivered? How are the objectives for training decided?Which professionals are involved and what tools do they rely on as they pass through each key milestone? When andwhere does this training process start and end?The aim of this paper is to comprehensively describe the process and supporting tools utilised by multiculturalteams for the development of a training lesson.The focus is on an experiment related lesson that was delivered to a crewmember required to operate Europeanhardware on board the International Space Station. This topic is presented from the points of view of a PayloadInstructor and Instructional Systems Designer.
