I-76 ALLEGHENY RIVER BRIDGE-PENNSYLVANIA'S FIRST LONG SPAN CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE SEGMENTAL BRIDGE

The 1-76 Allegheny River Bridge, Pennsylvania's first cast-in-place balanced cantilever bridge, is currently under construction and features a 532' main span across the Allegheny River. The construction is occurring between the 2007 USGA Open and the 2010 LPGA Open, both held at the historic Oakmont Country Club, which is adjacent to the bridge site on the eastern side. Walsh Construction Company (Walsh) was awarded the contract in May 2007 with a low bid of $189 million. The entire project includes construction of the new river bridge, approximately two (2) miles of roadway, reconstruction of the Allegheny Valley Interchange ramps and interchange bridge, construction of three (3) major retaining walls, and demolition of the existing bridge.
