Long Term Structural Health Monitoring of a Continuous Steel Girder Bridge

The Sikorsky Bridge is a five-span continuous steel structure with a composite concrete deck. In a joint effort with the University of Connecticut and ConnDOT, an instrumentation system consisting of 48 sensors was installed on the bridge to measure essential parameters for long term performance monitoring of the steel girder bridge. The instrumentation system measured maximum positive and negative girder strains/stresses, global vibration of the girders, longitudinal and transverse pier tilt and expansion joint movement. An on-demand remote data collection is used to assess bridge performance during its service life.
