Retrofit of a Rolling Leaf Bascule Bridge

摘要

This paper focuses on the design and detailing of an existing overhead counterweight bascule bridge to convert it into a fixed crossing. Design challenges and solutions presented include the stability of corroded bascule through girders, the support of the overhead counterweight, the development of a micropile supported substructure, the use of crash tested railings, and the use of bulb-T girders and concrete deck within the tight vertical profile of the existing floorbeams and grating.
