Four methods were brought forward for the hybrid electric bus to improve the fuel economy, and engine downsizing of energy saving for hybrid electric bus is more availability than others. Simulation of only engine downsizing of energy saving for hybrid electric bus is conducted in the several typical city bus cycles. Simulation analysis shows cycles much affect on the work efficiency of drive system and the fuel economy of hybrid electric bus. And the most engine work points of hybrid electric bus are arrayed in high efficiency field with engine downsizing. So the decreasing of fuel consumption is obvious.
