Cellular Uptake and Biodistribution of Surface Functionalized Gold Nanorods for Photothermal Therapy

Gold nanorods (GNRs) were surface functionalized with polyethylene glycol containing methoxy, carboxyl or amine groups and imaged for uptake in epithelial, endothelial and macrophage cell lines. The biodistribution of methoxy GNRs was evaluated in non-tumor bearing mice.
