Microencapsulated toxins - a Trojan horse approach to the control of zebra mussels

The zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha, is an invasive species, including in the US and Europe. Its biofouling activity causes serious economic problems in fresh water dependent industries. Methods currently available for the control of zebra mussels have significant disadvantages. We have developed a new, efficient and environmentally friendly control strategy for this, and potentially other, species based on the encapsulation and slow release of toxin.
