In order to obtain a vibration reduction index for different configurations of construction elements, it is necessary to know the value of the velocity difference between the different elements, in order to study their behaviour when they are stimulated. The procedure for making this measurement is described in UNE-EN ISO 10848-1:2007 for laboratory conditions only. However, this technique is frequently used to assess the "in situ‘ behaviour of the different elements, although its limitations are well known. In this paper we study the results of obtaining the vibration reduction index, through measurement of velocity differences, in various construction elements. We also study values for in situ measurements in real buildings and under laboratory conditions using a concrete scale model. In both cases the results are compared with empirical expressions offered by UNE EN 12354-1:2002 to obtain the vibration reduction index.
