Test Study on Resistance Reduction of Bubble Ship

A bubble ship can induct air to ship bottom and form air bubble around the bottom surface. The total resistance of the ship can be greatly decreased because the bottom flow type is changed, consisted of mainly air other than water. Bubble ship will be a new kind of ship type which is more economical and efficient than conventional ships. Russia has successfully developed many bubble ships, while we still have little experience and stand at initial stage of the ship type study. CSSRC has tracked the development of bubble ship for long time, and developed a bubble ship and drew up a set of experiment method for this ship type based on the former theoretic study results. A series of model tests for the target bubble ship and its original conventional chine ship were developed in pool for resistance analysis. The ship model, test procedure, test parameters, exchange method and converted results for real ship are described in detail. This paper contrasts the results between the two real ships, and then gets the conclusion of resistance decrease effect of bubble ship. The results provide credible dependence for performance study of the bubble ship type, and have important reference value for bubble ship's research and development.
