Antimicrobial Properties and Plant Growth Promotion of Actinomycetes from the Soil of Cherry Orchard

Actinomycetes have received considerable attention as biocontrol agents. From the rhizosphere soil of cherry orchard in different stages, actinomycete strains were isolated and purified by using dilution plates and selective medium, and they were then cocultured with 4 fungi and 4 bacteria respectively to screen for their antimicrobial activity in vitro antagonism assay. With the selected actinomycetes, a germination test was carried out to study the effect of antimicrobial actinomycete strains on plant growth promotion (including seed germination rate and root length). In the end, Thirty-two actinomycete strains were isolated from the soil samples of Cerasus sachalinensis Kom. Among the actinomycete isolates, 10 and 11 of them showed a great antagonistic activity towards the fungi and bacteria tested respectively. In the germination test with seeds of Lactuca sativa, 4 actinomycete strains (2-4, 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4) were selected to be the appropriate strains to antibiosis and promote the plant growth.
