Experience Of Screen Tube Damage Caused By Falling Deposits In Kraft Recovery Boilers

An investigation was conducted to examine the cause of severe screen tube damage in the recovery boiler at VCP Luis Antonio mill. The results suggest that the problem was likely caused by impact of large pieces of deposits falling from the furnace roof and from the leading edge of superheater platens in the upper furnace. The problem has been reduced significantly by periodically monitoring the amount of deposit buildup on the furnace roof using a special camera; by installing an additional sootblower to minimize the deposit accumulation; by increasing the pressure and blowing frequency of sootblowers to minimize deposit build up in the problem-prone areas and by induced thermal shedding to control deposit size.
