Synthesis and structure of new energetic salt, 4-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitromethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazolium perchlorate (MNNTP), are considered in this article. The alkylation of 3-nitro-1-nitromethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole with dimethyl sulfate proceeds with formation of 4-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitromethyl-1 H-1,2,4-triazolium methyl sulfate. Marginally soluble MNNTP precipitates with a high yield after addition of perchloric acid or its salts to the reactionary solution. The synthesised new energetic salt has better oxygen balance (-13.9%) than RDX, relatively high thermostability (Tm.p. 205-207°C) and density (1.84 g/cm~3). X-ray structure of this compound is discussed.
