The aim of this study was to compare the penetration performance into semi-infinite concrete of two different shaped charge jets. Both liners had equal mass, with one jet produced by a warhead with a powdered Aluminium liner and the second jet was produced using a warhead with a wrought AluminiuM liner. Hydrocode simulations were performed to help quantify the important physics in the formation of the jets and the energy/momentum distributions, since it was postulated that the powder liner would produce a coherent aligned particulate jet, with the wrought liner producing a solid jet. A compaction Equation of State was constructed for the powdered AluminiuM liner. Eulerian hydrocode simulations predicted little difference between the jets with the caveat that there was no tensile failure model for the powdered Aluminium. Experiments were performed, showing that the jets were quite similar except for some subtle differences in the tip and rear of the jets. The simulations gave good agreement with the jet velocity and general profile, provided a strength model was included. The boreholes in the concrete targets were found to be very similar.
