Impact Of Airports On Regional Accessibility And Social Development

This study compares the impact that two airports in Norway have on regionalaccessibility and social development. One of the airports is a medium-sized airportthat serves a relatively large and accessible region. The other is a small-sized airportthat serves a relatively small and less accessible region. The study compares theopinions of residents that live in the respective regions and is based on the findings ofa postal survey that was completed by over 2 000 residents. The Independent Samplest-test is used to investigate the significance of any differences in opinion. The analysisfinds that significant differences tend to reflect the size and scope of services at theairport and specific characteristics of the region. The analysis also finds significantdifferences regarding the importance that a local airport has on a persons decision tolocate and continue living in the region.
