Various experiments were conducted to develop the technology for alcohol production from sugarcane juice as well as direct sugarcane. Fermentation period of 24h and inoculum size of 5% was found optimumfor all the three yeast strains i.e. RY-5, RY-8 and HAU-21 selected for ethanol production from direct sugarcane and juice. Recycling of yeast biomass twice increased the alcohol production significantly in comparison to fresh culture. Scaling up of cane juice fermentation up to 5 L capacity produced 64.3, 74.5 and 81.3 g/l by RY-5, RY-8 and HAU-21 respectively under optimized conditions. Direct cane fermentation by RY-5, RY-8 and HAU-21 produced 49.1, 50.4 and 52.3g/l ethanol
