The paper proposes employing ENVISAT/ASAR data for determining spatial distribution of soil moisture by the supervised Wishart's classification method. Results serve the meso scale extension between the ground based data and the SMOS pixel scale 35x35 km. The purpose of validating SMOS requires SAR data interpreted on soil moisture and the water content bounded to the vegetation canopy. Therefore MERIS'data, is needed for evaluation of water by means of vegetation indexes. Examples present the seasonal change detection by scattering plots between LAI and the fractional cover. The idea is to employ satellite images as archives being abundant in data necessary for managing the problem of the diversity of scales. The presented example results are taken for the area of KNP, in Poland, where a new SMOS validation site is planned, in frames of the SMOS Cal-Val program, and the project SWEX AO-3275.
