Currently there are not only SS4 locomotives but also HXD locomotives running in Datong-Qinhuang-dao line. Although they are all heavy-load locomotives, HXD locomotives have good characteristic such as starting with a big traction, sustained traction power and large regenerative braking power. Regenerative braking energy can absolutely feed back to traction power system. When the locomotive voltage below the 17. 5 kV or more than 31 kV, the voltage protection moves and locomotive power drops to 0. In view of HXD locomotives' characteristic above, this paper not only analysis two problems; one is the low overhead equipment's voltage which is caused by high traction current, and the other is the uplifted overhead equipment's voltage which is caused by traction feeding system absorbing HXD locomotives' regenerative braking energy, but also proposes feasible solutions.
