A Study of Transportation Disruption Causes and Costs in Containerized Maritime Transportation

This research focuses on estimating and understanding the costs and causes of transportationrelated supply chain disruptions. In-depth interviews with logistics managers were undertaken toinvestigate how companies perceive transportation related supply chain disruptions and whatthey are doing to respond and address them. Stated choice experiments were designed to estimatethe cost of disruptions for containers in international maritime trade. The results of the discretechoice models indicate that disruption costs are several times larger than traditional values offreight travel time and reliability.
