Factory operations modelling methodology appliedto a case study

In many process operations the final products are manufactured in different stages andmultiple product streams share the same equipment. In general, limited operations areconnected by a large set of buffers. In these plants, scheduling the operations tomaximise capacity, or minimizing operational costs is not straighforward. The keychallenge is to design an operations model that is as simple as possible, but stillrepresent reality of a factory. In this paper a methodology for a factory operations modelis presented and discussed. In order to arrive at a simple but realistic model, amethodology needs to be complemented by knowledge of the specific domain andmodelling skills-experience.
