Development and Characterisation of a Novel Wound Formulation for the Delivery of Metronidazole

Metronidazole was encapsulated in chitosan-alginatebeads for potential application to the wound environment.The impact of additives and modifying the cross-linkingmedium and on the properties of the beads wasinvestigated. Bead integrity and structure was enhancedthrough the addition of inorganic additives. Encapsulationwas increased by adding metronidazole to both thechitosan and alginate components prior to cross-linking.
