摘要

The objective of this study was to determine whetherthe quality of imaging data obtained with 124I is suitable for studying pharmacokinetics (PK) by Positron Emission Tomography (PET). PET is a fully quantitative imaging method comparable in accuracy with conventional biodistribution/biokinetics studies. Iodine-124 is the only available positron emitter with a relatively long (4 days) physical half-life, which makes it attractive as a label for the investigation of the slow pharmacokinetics that is characteristic for biotechnology products and drug delivery systems. In this report we show that the imaging properties of 124I (spatial resolution, sensitivity, and count-rate performance) are fully adequate for quantitative PK research. Imaging studies in animals (rats and monkeys) support the conclusion.
