Alexa 647-labelled ovalbumin (Ova) was delivered tothe scleral, choroidal, and retinal tissues of rat eyes forperiods up to 14 days using a subconjunctival injection ofa thermosetting, protein-loaded gel. The amount of Ovain each tissue was measured by protein extraction fromthe dissected and homogenized tissue. Correspondinghistological fluorescence photomicrographic images wereobtained at times from 2 hours to 14 days. Verification ofintact Ova protein was made using LDS-PAGE gelelectrophoresis of the extraction samples. Sustainedtranscleral delivery of protein size therapeutic moleculesholds promise for treatment of posterior eye diseases.
