This study describes surface-modification and self-assembly of particles for future micro-devices. Silica particles are coated with self-assembled monolayer of hydrophilic or hydrophobic material for surface modification. Surface-modified particles are hexagonally packed in approximately 20 μm width by self-assembly based on dip-coating. Some test results have indicated that assembly yield of particles increases with particle wettability. Protein molecules are also physically adsorbed on other silica particles. Fluorescence microscope observation shows that the particles can be self-assembled supporting protein molecules.
