@@Citrus is the most important fruit crop in the southern part of China, and ranks the second fruits based on the total production in China, just behind apple. The total production in 2006 reached 17. 8 million tons. There are 9 main citrus producing provinces and city distributing in the area south to 33° N. In the past decade, citrus production has been centralized to the four advantageous belts. These four belts include the upper and middle reach of Yangtze River belt from Yibin of Sichuan to Yichang of Hubei, the seashore belt along the south part of Zhejiang through Fujian to the east part of Guangdong, the 25°N belt consisting of south parts of Jiangxi, Hunan and north part of Guangxi, and the belt from west of Hubei to the West of Hunan. Interestingly, these four belts can be divided into two types, one type consists of two vertical belts where the main citrus types are mandarin and tangerine with some pummelos; another type is the left horizontal belts where the main varieties are sweet orange including navel orange and Valencia orange.
