The current US healthcare crisis is compounded by high variability in the quality of healthcare delivery across the 42ndnation. These discrepancies predominantly impact the lower tier states, such as South Carolina, currently rankedSouth Carolina has room for significant improvement, especially in ambulatory care and chronic illnesses.These two areas are interrelated in that poor ambulatory care practices impede the prevention and early diagnosis ofchronic illnesses. This paper discusses several of the projects underway at Clemson University targeted atimproving the quality of healthcare in South Carolina.
