The principal purpose of this study is to minimize storm water impacts on receivingwaters by the optimization of the couple storm tank - waste water treatment plant(WWTP). In addition, this article suggests a new methodology for the design ofstorm tanks within the framework of integrated urban wastewater system management.After identifying the relevant physic-chemical parameters in terms of impactson the receiving waters, we designed an integrated model consisting of the associationof an ASM1 model for the WWTP and of a simplified model for the stormtank. We tested three control strategies. The optimization variables studied werethe storm tank volume and the flow rate capacity for biological treatment.
