PLANT AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE RECOVERY HOUSE

The basic processes used for exhausting refinery recovery house products, comprising vacuum pan boiling, massecuite cooling and further exhausting in crystallisers, followed by reheating and curing in centrifugals has remained unchanged for very many years. Likewise the same basic equipment is still being used for this processing. However, there have been some major changes in equipment design in the modern era, particularly involving the development of continuous vacuum pans, crystallisers and centrifugals. In the case of continuous centrifugals there has been an almost universal application of these for recovery house processing whereas, the use of continuous vacuum pans (CVPs) has still only received very limited adoption despite providing the benefits of reduced equipment investment, superior performance, easier operation and greater flexibility. A brief review of the advantages modern equipment designs provide in recovery house operations is presented.
