This paper looks initially at the current position of the global footwear market and where polyurethane fits in as a soling material. It then goes on to investigate the ramifications of the producer / consumer pressure to produce more environmentally sound footwear and finishes by looking at what the likely affects all this will have on the place and process used to produce footwear in the future.
