The in vitro differentiation from embryonic stem cells into insulin-producing cells (IPCs) offers potential for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. Traditional tissue culture surface and alginate scaffolds were used here to induce ES cells differentiation into IPCs. ES cells proliferation and differentiation within 2-D and 3-D culture were characterized.
